NEWS | EVENTS | OPPORTUNITIES MAY 2011 UPCOMING EVENTS   TUESDAY 3 MAY, 7 - 8.30PM BOOK LAUNCH: 4000 DISPAROS/ 4000 SHOTS    Residency artist Jonathas de Andrade discusses his new book 4000 Disparos/4000 Shots with independent curator Kiki Mazzuchelli.   Based on his film of the same title, the book contains frame-by-frame shots of anonymous male faces. The qualities of the piece force the artist and the viewer to test their connections to the past, either through aesthetic consumption or direct engagement.   The publication includes a foreword by Kiki Mazzuchelli and excerpts from a conversation with cultural critic Suely Rolnik. A screening of 4000 Disparos/4000 Shots will run throughout the evening. SATURDAY 14 MAY, 1 - 5PM DROP-IN WORKSHOP: LAPSO, A COLLECTIVE DRAWING EXPERIMENT   Current residency artist Catalina Bauer invites the public to contribute to Lapso, her ongoing collaborative installation that considers issues of production and exchange. Visitors can exchange their used colour pencils for new ones and take part in a large-scale drawing, directly made onto the gallery walls of Gasworks. Come along to participate or even just to see the work take shape! Refreshments will be provided.   SAVE THE DATE FRIDAY 27 MAY, 6.30 - 9PM PREVIEW: THE WORK OF THE SPIRIT (PARADE)  A SOLO EXHIBITION BY TAMAR GUIMARÃES   For her first solo exhibition in the UK, Tamar Guimarães presents a newly commissioned short film alongside two existing works: Canoas (2010) and A Man Called Love (2008). The exhibition continues until 17 July.
