Opening Reception: 2011 UNCG MFA Thesis Exhibition

May 1, 2 - 4pm



The 2011 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition features work by six artists in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Department of Art graduate program: Amanda Nicholas (drawing), Andrew Etheridge (sculpture), Isabelle Abbot (painting), Jody Christian (drawing), Jonathan Cobbs (painting/sculpture), and Maurice Moore (drawing). Please join us for our opening reception Sunday, May 1, 2pm.

 

2011 MFA Thesis Film Screening: Shorts Program

May 5, 6 - 9pm



Graduate students in the UNCG MFA Media Studies program present their thesis works in this selection of film shorts. Featuring works by Cara Clark, Rick Dillwood, Mary Lopez, and Debra Sea.

Pre-screening reception at 6pm. Films begin at 7pm in the Weatherspoon Auditorium. A discussion concludes the program. Parental guidance recommended.  FREE.

Noon @ the 'Spoon features a gallery tour of the 2011 UNCG MFA Thesis Exhibition.

Noon @ the 'Spoon is offered every second Tuesday of the month.  This month's tour will be led by UNCG MFA student artists.  Free. No reservation needed.



Weatherspoon Art Museum Association Annual Meeting and Member's Night

May 18, 5:30 - 8:30pm



The Weatherspoon Art Museum Association will host its annual meeting for all members, with a short business meeting, election of new board members, a guest lecture by Danniel Belasco, and a reception. 

Daniel Belasco is Henry J. Leir Associate Curator at The Jewish Museum, where he has organized the exhibitions “Reinventing Ritual” (2009) and “Shifting the Gaze: Painting and Feminism” (2010) while managing the museum’s contemporary Judaica program of acquisitions and commissions. Daniel was the co-curator of “The Dissolve,” SITE Santa Fe’s Eighth International Biennial (2010). In his presentation, “Curator as Journalist,” he will talk about how this concept has animated his work on exhibitions. Mr. Belasco has published in numerous art and cultural journals and lectured around the country. He holds a PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and a BA from Amherst College. Daniel lives in Brooklyn, New York.
