Join us as former Foreign Minister of Brazil Celso Amorim discusses his recent article in the
Spring 2011 issue of Americas Quarterly,
"The New Brazil and the Changing Hemisphere." After a long career in Brazil’s prestigious Itamaraty, Ambassador Amorim was the foreign minister of Brazil from 1993 to 1995 and again from 2003 to 2011. During his latter turn in the ministry, Ambassador Amorim oversaw Brazil’s negotiation of a series of free trade agreements, leadership of the bloc of developing countries at the World Trade Organization meeting in Cancún and, with Turkey, discussions with Iran over its nuclear program. Ambassador Amorim will reflect on these efforts and their implications for Brazil’s place in the world and for relations between Brazil and the United States, followed by a Q&A session moderated by AS/COA CEO and President Susan Segal.
