Guest of Honour – Mr. Kwok Kian Chow
(Director, the National Art Gallery, Singapore)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
30 March 2011
1 Nature, through its many
forms, served as Tay Bak Chiang's
chief inspiration for his third solo exhibition, aptly titled Ingenuity. The artist's deep found awe
in the harmony, balance and perfection in nature is made clear through these
sumptuous Chinese ink paintings
2 Both
the Stone series and the Lotus Pond series in Ingenuity portray its subjects in their barest forms, with Tak Bak Chiang returning to the essence
of his subjects by abandoned
motifs that would bear his feelings, points of view and intentions. In doing so the viewer is invited to imagine and ultimately discover first-hand nature's
ingenuity.
3 Ingenuity runs from May 16th, 2011 until June 3rd, 2011 at
Chan Hampe Galleries @ Tanjong Pagar, which is located at 21 Tanjong Pagar
Road. The exhibition is open from
10am - 6pm on weekdays (closed on Wednesday) and 11am - 4pm on weekends. Admission is free. For enquires please call +65 6222 1667.
About the Artist
4 After
graduating with a Diploma in Fine Arts from Nanyang
Academy of Fine Arts in 1995, Tay Bak Chiang’s artistic career has taken him
across Asia to countries including Korea, Japan, Singapore and his native
China. In 2003 Bak Chiang was
awarded the first prize for the Traditional Chinese Medium Category of the 22nd
UOB Painting of the Year Competition.
5 With a strong desire to not only observe nature but also to
continuously learn from it Tay Bak Chiang explores incorporating varying
degrees of personal narratives into his paintings. At times motifs such as birds and flowers are used to
objectify his thoughts and emotions in the paintings, at other times the
emphasis on the subject itself allows the viewer to appreciate the simplicity
and innovation of nature herself.
