"Designs of Nature"
2011-05-05 until 2011-05-28
Fried Contemporary Art Gallery & Studio
Brooklyn, ,
ZA South Africa
This exhibition forms part of a series of exhibitions that will take place in 2011: Designs of time, Designs of living, Designs of nature and Designs of self. The idea is to link the four exhibitions in terms of how individuals live and 'design' their lives from within societies and how they operate in history, time and contexts. In Designs of nature, several of the artworks comment on technologies that are encroaching upon our inner space, invading our bodies and consciousnesses.
The participating artists articulate views of nature (as the real) that range from the personal and the sentimental to nature as a geometric system through algorithmic reworking. Cosmetic intercession and artificial transmutation of the natural world interface with references to the human experience of nature. In the work, transience, mutation and fragmentation run riot in the creation of imaginary designs of nature.
