May Performances at
CAVE!
Dear Friends,
We will have exciting performances at CAVE this
month. Our Ferment Series is back with three
different programs: May 22, 27,28 &29. Five dance/theater
artists from our studio-residency program will share to the public excerpts
from their works and explorations. Also, the Piercing Butoh classes taught
by Daiji Meguro and Ximena Garnica culminate with a group piece
choreographed by Daiji Meguro and various solo pieces created by each
participant under the direction of Ximena Garnica. We are very happy with
this process and we plan to continue the Piercing Butoh classes from July
16 to Nov 6.
Please check details below! And come come, this
month kicks off this year performances at CAVE; show up,observe, stay,
talk, and have a drink after evening performances.
From our friends two great
opportunities:
The first is a fun party, at HERE
with open bar, dj, Shige's video and the chance to dance all-night. Artist
tickets available details at the end of this message! We will be there!
And the second is an opportunity "to be counted"
The Dance/NYC Junior Committee has now launched its Dance Workforce
Census: Earnings among individuals ages 21-35. Every
individual plays an integral part in this grassroots effort to reach a
representative sample of workers in this demographic. Please scroll
down for more details and help us spread the word about this initiative.

Ferment Series is CAVE's platform for the
development of new work, by dancers, actors, and interdisciplinary
performers who are in residency at CAVE or have been participants of CAVE's
various training initiatives now under the umbrella of LUDUS educational
program.
CAVE performance season is part of the The NY
Butoh Kan Teaching Residency and is supported in part by an award from the
National Endowment for the Arts. It is also made possible with public funds
from the New York State Council of the Arts. A state agency. And by public
funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. In addition
the May 27 –29 “Ferment Series” is possible by
volunteer efforts of the Piercing Butoh class students. Piercing Butoh
Classes is a series of weekly classes lead by Daiji Meguro and Ximena
Garnica-Leimay held during four months at CAVE and culminating in public
presentations at CAVE.

Calling dance makers, performers,
educators, managers, presenters, representatives, consultants,
collaborators, critics and everyone working in dance:
Did you work or volunteer in the dance field in New
York City in 2010, in any capacity? Is your age 21-35? If so: BE
COUNTED. Take the Dance Workforce Census.
To take the census, click HERE
or visit dancenyc.org/be counted
NOW through MAY 27.
Ximena has been involved in the Dance/NYC Junior
Committee for the past three years. And have been lucky to witness the
amazing work of the Committee and of the leaders of this initiative: Irfana
Jetha, Julia Kelly and Benn Rasmussen. All the committee deserves lots of
energy in this initiative. Now YOU are needed, so make sure to be
counted!
The census has an age limit, however recognizing
this demographic is one part of a greater whole. The Junior Committee will
work to use this research findings to make a case for, and craft effective
methods for, future research that may encompass the entire New York City
dance workforce. There is strength in numbers. Please help us spread
the word about this initiative. Every individual plays an integral
part in our grassroots effort to reach a representative sample of workers
in this demographic. We need your help.
Because the dance field is the future of many of
us, and there are people out there who want to advocate for you!
