CALLING YOUNG ARTISTS
Young
People's Saturday Art Club Summer Term Enrolments
As summer is almost upon us our thoughts
for the Saturday Art Club have turned to activities which explore outside of
the gallery.
This term artists will continue to lead
sessions that encompass a range of disciplines including sculpture, textiles,
drawing, film, performance etc. There will also be the chance to link the
Ipswich Art School Gallery with other aspects of the Museum by venturing across
to Christchurch Mansion to take in the gardens and art
collection.
A few of the ideas that inspiration will
be drawn from include:
-
Inside and outside the
gallery
-
actual and imaginary
journeys
-
the act of walking
-
mapping
-
habitation – follies,
grottos and garden buildings
-
folk art/architecture
-
‘inhabiting open spaces’
- the
East Anglian landscape
-
experimental architecture
The sessions will culminate with an event
(to be co-curated between artist leaders and Art Club participants). This will
be centred on the idea of a ‘pop-up sculpture park’ and take place
in garden between the Ipswich Art School Gallery and the High Street
Museum. Here parents and
friends will be invited to see what young artist-participants have been up to
and celebrate their creative achievements with a family picnic.
