project’s key focus is to set up diverse, site-specific and possibly

and appreciation of cultural differences and that install a sense of belonging

Getting Concrete about Art at
National Arts Festival:
The National Arts Festival has partnered with
Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) to create a public artwork as a legacy project,
dedicated to the community of Grahamstown. Johannes "Zach" Taljaard,
a former winner of the Young Concrete Sculptor’s Award, is the artist selected
to create a sculpture for St Mary's Day Care Centre during the Festival.

Nicolaas Maritz Receives French Honour:
It was announced on 15
June 2011 in Paris that an HIV awareness poster design by South African artist
Nicolaas Maritz, titled "Love the one you're with", was one of five
winners chosen by the NGO Dessine l'espoir / Designing for hope in their recent
poster competition. More here.

Proposal-Writing Workshop at
GoetheonMain:
The Visual Arts Network
of South Africa (VANSA) will be running a briefing and proposal-writing
workshop for artists at the GoetheonMain project space. The workshop will be
held on 5 and 6 July from 10am to 4pm on each day. Artists interested in

Arts Networking Event at Collage Fashion
Deli:
On
June 25th Long Street in Cape Town’s Collage Fashion Deli will
transform from a retail shop into a space for conversation and artistic networking.
The Fashion Deli will host student and professional artists for a night of
creative expression. The exhibition will include the art work, film, graphic
design, and photography of local students at AFDA, City Varsity, University of
Cape Town, and Cape Town Penninsula University of Technology. More here.

prestigious Genée International Ballet Competition in October 2011. The event
is presented by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and is supported by the

Talent Campus participants for
Durban Film Fest:
The Durban International Film Festival has finalised
selection for this year's edition of Talent Campus Durban (22-26 July). Nearly
50 filmmakers representing 16 African countries - Botswana, Burkina Faso,
Cameroon, Cote d'Iivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali,
Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, and Zimbabwe - will converge
on Durban to take part in an intensive programme of workshops and masterclasses
during the first five days of the festival. More here.

DIFF to open
with Otelo Burning:
Over 250 screenings will
be presented at the 32nd edition of the Durban International Film Festival’s
from 21 to 31 July.
The festival opens with
the World Premiere of a film shot in Durban - Otelo Burning, directed by Sara
