Elysium World - X Word - Play 极乐仙居-X世界-戏 1996 Ink, Acrylic on Rice Paper 38 × 69 in.(left) Elysium World 极乐仙居 2006 Acrylic on canvas 22 × 54 in.(center) Doll-1 玩偶(一) 1996 Paper cut 55 × 55 in.(right) In World of Joyblins, Liang Chang Sheng imagines a utopian society of "Ultimate Happiness." filled with magical creatures which he refers to as Joyblins ("He Le"), they inhabit a peaceful, harmonious, and joyful world where they require no sustenance and are unencumbered by corporeal form. In this way, they can freely transform into any form or shape. In Liang's intimate worlds, there exists no hierarchy, conflict, or competition; time, space and eternal joy are infinite. |

If we say that Ai Wei Wei subverts antique and traditional value, then Liang takes traditional learning as an aesthetic tool to reinforce his art. Liang's work co-exists with history and modernity. Unlike most contemporary artists, Liang's concept is quite neutral is similar to that of hermits who have left the workaday world; he sedulously hides his subversive aims. He has not explicitly taken any political or societal stance, for his artistic world is superficially serene and harmonious. This is actually a trenchant reflection on the Chinese government's behavior and capitalistic direction Controversy and conflict lurk beneath the surface of He Le and the repetitive world of Joyblins.
