On Saturday, July 16, Aperture Studios heats up the night with a reception featuring the photography of Argentinean, Manuel Mazzanti.
In "Light & Drama", an exhibition of large scale lambda prints. In Mazzanti work, the viewer's attention is directed to often over-looked details. Mazzanti zooms in on sculptural forms and life-like elements, giving even the most familiar icons a new life. "I love details," says Mazzanti, "I pay close attention to them and I guess they are reflected in my images." Mazzanti also loves sharing his work and giving new voice to his subjects. "Sharing is key for me" says Mazzanti, "I don't know if I would be taking pictures if I knew they were only for me. Maybe sharing is a basic rule in photography, maybe not. I just do it."
About Manuel Mazzanti: Thirty years ago, Mazzanti's father gave him an old Canon reflex so that he could take pictures of the Davis Cup's semifinals in Buenos Aires. Mazzanti was equally fascinated with the prospect of watching Guillermo Vilas up close, but also with the opportunity to photograph the match using this "strange" camera his father had given him. Mazzanti recalls his father saying "The film is 200 ASA, so if you set the speed between 300 and 500 you'll be ok". Of course he couldn't resist experimenting with the different speeds, the aperture and focal length. When the film was developed the results were in Mazzanti 's own words "surprisingly good" and he has been hooked ever since.
Of note three of Mazzanti's work have been selected for the Cannes Photography Contest, called CannesAlso, as part as of the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival. Brought to life by Getty Images and Clear Channel, the CannesAlso exhibition will be held outside of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, during Festival week.
