ALLE - Workers' Pearls
A group show at KUBUS by Berghain

Exhibition runs from August 19th--26th, 2011

Running from August 18th through the 26th, a group show of artworks by Berghain personnel will be held at the entrance hall of the KUBUS - the hitherto unused section of the former boiler house at the defunct heat and power station Friedrichshain, which today houses the Berghain and Panorama Bar.

art and nightlife has long converged at Berghain: artworks by former club staff, like Marc Brandenburg, adorn the club walls, or by other renowned contemporary artists, like Piotr Nathan and Wolfgang Tillmans, who frequent the club regularly. Coincidence or not, there are many emerging artists among the club personnel. Working either as bartenders, bouncers, bus boys, cleaning help, handyman, technicians or soundmen, for these artists the club is more than a mere job, it's a source of inspiration and a means to support their creative output.

ALLE is an exhibition dedicated to the artistic capacities of workers at Berghain. With pieces by some 40 artists, ALLE is a conceptually open show, spanning a wide range of media from painting to photography, installations, sound art and music. ALLE does not follow a specific curatorial theme, it is rather conceived as an opportunity to examine the ways in which working at Berghain can be said to - consciously or not - affect artistic production. Some of the works on view stem directly from experiences lived at ungodly hours in the club, others channel them indirectly into their creative output, while others still consciously reject it.

Through breaches in the ground floor's concrete ceiling, where the exhibition will be installed, glimpses of the ominous and barren architecture of the KUBUS can be caught, before construction works to convert the KUBUS into a multi-purpose venue will take off this fall.
