Santa Monica, CA - The Santa Monica Museum of Art announces a live art extravaganza with artist Stephen Keene painting on-site for one week, from Sunday, August 7 through Saturday, August 13. Keene's painting performance will occur in tandem with the Dog Days of Summer blowout sale at Gracie, the Museum's popular and meticulously edited retail store. (Gracie blowout sale: Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7)
"At the Santa Monica Museum of Art, everyone is a collector," says Keene. ''It's art, it's cheap, and it changes your life."
This event offers the rare opportunity for art enthusiasts to curate their own personal collections with paintings by Keene that are priced starting at only $10-$25.
Keene's legendary tenure at SMMoA began in the year 2000 with the impressive exhibition,
Miracle Half Mile, during which he painted more than 10,000 pieces of art. Now, a decade later, he returns to again paint his way into art history and into the hearts of Angelinos. Keene's first exhibition at SMMoA inaugurated Executive Director Elsa Longhauser's tenure, and this latest event comes as she celebrates her tenth anniversary.
Keene will be on-site working at a heart-racing rate to raise funds for SMMoA's groundbreaking exhibitions and programs. In a Herculean effort, Keene will paint a new theme each day, with each series focusing on a different subject: from Paintings of Famous Paintings, Outer Space, Animals, Flowers, to LA Landmarks and Pop Culture Icons.
Keene will also paint new modular furniture for a soon-to-be unveiled outdoor space called the
SMMoAsis. The Museum's current collection of his one-of-a-kind furniture will be offered for sale at Gracie's blowout sale.
Join SMMoA for this unique painting marathon and celebrate mid-summer by participating in an epic act of creation that will unfold for only one week. Art lovers of all stripes are encouraged to email
info@smmoa.org with wish lists of themes and images for this year's miraculous art mini-marathon.
