New York, New York, August 11, 2011 - New York Photographer and artitst, Christine Finkelson will be exhibiting her series of fine art photographs, Hidden Messages, at the New Art Center in New York, September 6 - 24, 2011.
The series, Hidden Messages, explores the the beauty of weathered materials and the process of decay, looking at the textures of surfaces and how one responds to them in a visceral way.
"I spent the summer photographing the old utility poles on the barrier island of Fire Island that have been left with mysterious numbers, letters, sculptural forms and symbols that suggested a hidden narrative between man and environment. I’ve explored this theme in the past with left over paper messages that had been stapled to the walls and poles and had turned to scraps. What I saw were beautiful abstract collages. I like to find the beauty in the ordinary perhaps getting so close that one cannot help to be drawn into the piece and let the imagination take over. It’s somewhat meditative and subjective."
The opening reception will be September 8th from 6pm to 8pm at the New Art Center, 580 8th Ave on the 5th Floor.
