“That This” and a Few Other Things: The Poetry of Susan Howe

Join Susan Howe, winner of Yale University’s prestigious Bollingen Prize in American Poetry, for an evening of poetry and discussion. Often inspired by museum collections, Howe illustrates her talk with images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Before the reading, be inspired by a verse-worthy cocktail hour and light but lyric hors d’oeuvres .

The Hot Air Club holds programs throughout the year that combine fun and socializing with a lively mix of art and culture-related topics. The events are generously sponsored by Centerbrook Architects and Planners, People's United Bank, and Reynolds' Garage and Marine, Inc.

Want to publish, or just record family stories? This seminar on the craft of memoir is taught by the nurturers of many novice and professional writers. Writing exercises lead toward a significant final work -- and publication on the Museum's website.

Bloom (The Writer Within, Letters from Nuremberg, Connecticut Notebook) mentored Wally Lamb, Carl Hiaasen, and Edna Buchanan. He teaches memoir in Fairfield University’s MFA program. Levine is the author of Haberdasher’s Daughter.

Outgoing volunteers needed
The Museum has received funding to embark on our most important audience research project yet. The information that we receive from analyzing the data will impact every department in the Museum. We need volunteers to conduct surveys at places like schools, farmers markets, libraries, senior centers, etc. from Madison to Middletown to Mystic. The time commitment is 25 hours now through October. Please contact Tammi if you would like to be a part of this important team.
