CARMEN by Bonnie Dwyer

Join us on Saturday, September 10th for a lively lecture and trunk show by Maine's Bonnie Dwyer, also known as "The Quilt Whisperer."

In The Common Thread: A Maine Family's Needlework Legacy, Bonnie takes us on a warm romp through the ages using quilts and other needlework created by multiple generations of women in her family. Her lecture will move and intrigue you, and leave you thinking about the unique fabric of your own family legacy.

Call the Museum Shop at 978-452-4207 ext. 16 today to sign up.

Continuing through October 16th
MAINE'S QUILT HERITAGE

Join us for a rare opportunity to view beautiful and historic quilts dating from as early as 1804. "Maine's Quilt Heritage: Quilts from the Maine Quilt Documentation Project" continues at the New England Quilt Museum through October 16th.

Quilts tell stories of the people who make them and use them, and speak to us of the times in which the maker lived. These very special quilts reflect the unique and rugged history of the Pine Tree State.

There's only one week left to see quilts from the American Quilt Study Group 2010 challenge now on display. This is the only eastern stop on the exhibit's national tour.

Each year, AQSG challenges its members to create a quilt inspired by an antique original. Last year's theme was "19th century star quilts." The top 25 results are on view at the Museum through August 31st.

NOTE: Like many of you, we are tracking Hurricane Irene. Before heading out to the Museum this Sunday, check to be sure we are open by visiting our website (www.nequiltmuseum.org) or Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-New-England-Quilt-Museum/101991031637). You don't have to be a Facebook member to see the Museum's Facebook page.

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

Collaborative Quilting
Thursdays 10 AM to 3 PM: We kick off our second collaborative quilting project for 2011. Home of the Brave Quilts is aimed at the Gold Star mothers and spouses of our fallen troops. Massachusetts needs more than one hundred quilts for this purpose. We are partnered with Massachusetts coordinators Julie Crossland, Marilyn Davis and Diana O'Connor to help meet the need.
Volunteers are preparing kits using donated Civil War fabrics. Drop by to make a block or sign a block. Many hands make light work! This program is supported in part by the Hannah Dustin Quilters Guild.
