PRESS RELEASE: Photographic Exhibition 'Kate's Journal' For release in September / October ‘KATE'S JOURNAL’ A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION with SPECIAL EVENTS during BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in OCTOBER Topic: Portraits of a journey through breast cancer treatment   London, 1 September 2011   Freelance photographer Astrid Schulz is exhibiting a series of 15 images, showing the different stages of breast cancer treatment.   Exhibition and events take place from 17 - 22 October 2011 and is open from 12pm - 6pm at The Underground Gallery, The Strand, Charing Cross Underground Station Exit 9, London WC2N 4HZ The exhibition includes informative and informal events for people and their loved ones currently affected by breast cancer. - Tuesday 18th October (6-8:30pm) Private view (please RSVP) - Wednesday 19th October (6-8:30pm) Confidence and Style: Learn how to deal with changes to your appearance and boost self-confidence during cancer treatment - Thursday 20th October (2-4:30pm) Our journey: Kate and Jessica share their journey of breast cancer and give their thoughts as to how to keep emotionally strong - Saturday 22nd October (12-6pm) Photo-session for people affected by breast cancer: get your picture taken by photographer Astrid Schulz All events are free and open to all. Drinks and snacks are provided.   The project ‘Kate’s journal’ started in January 2010 when Kate Sims was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite her devastation she asked photographer Astrid Schulz to take some pictures of her, depicting the way she looked before the operation. Astrid suggested continuing the photo sessions during the different phases of treatment until full recovery. The result is a sensitive and compelling series of portraits.   The exhibition ‘Kate’s Journal’ and the incorporated events aim to give other cancer patient (and their next of kin) an insight into the treatment with a supportive note: it can be done and there is always a way to get through life-changing health issues.
