Global Communication Festival 2011

Featuring Mobius Artist Group Member   Milan Kohout

Milan Revolution Recruitment

Global Communication is not just another contemporary art festival. It is not a festival if we think of a festival as a presentation. Our project is a platform through which audience is able to communicate with artists and space where they are working on. Why artists are working "on" a space rather than "in" a space? And why this "reversed" communication is so important in the relation between a space,an artist and audience? Because an idea on which the whole project is based concerns nomadic and inimitable aspects of art. What does it mean? It means that we are interested not in activity of artists but in their creativity. One can say that we are inviting them to perform as they have never performed before because we are asking them to invent a new actions; new ways of communication by their art with what sourrounds them. It is not just another "performance-art-piece" in a new space - but brand new interactive action and intervention with the people. It is why we have no "presentations" in our festival - it is almost impossible to step outside such performance; to watch it from a distance; not to take part in it. Last year those performances were presented in various spaces in and outside Mazovian Centre of Contemporary Art in Radom, Poland. This edition of the festival is dedicated to an Idiom which represents a topic and main subject of the whole project in 2011: "Open space / Free space / Work".

Bay Shore, NY: Exhibition

Sunday July 31st - Friday September 2nd, 2011

@ The Second Avenue Firehouse Gallery

The Ties That Bind - A Book About Death

Curated by LuAnn T. Palazzo &

Featuring Mobius Artist Group Member Jane Wang

Ties That Bind

The Second Avenue

Firehouse Gallery

17 Second Avenue

Bay Shore, New York

This show presents three important firsts:

All the new work from worldwide artists are actual book pages like Ray Johnson originally created in 1963, and NOT postcards. The pages have been bound into handmade volumes, thereby providing an omega to the alpha of the unbound book from the original NYC show curated by Matthew Rose in 2009.

Through the amazing generosity of American artist Allen Bukoff, we are proud to debut a project he created just for this exhibition. It features a body of work by Ray Johnson that has never before been seen in public. The work is entitled "A Book About Ray Johnson and Hot Dogs."

Also in this exhibition for the first time, we expand the theme past visual art, performance art and poetry, into musical performance with the introduction of New Orleans Second Line Funeral Jazz with The Joe Saylor Brass Band.

About Mobius:
Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists.  Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines.  This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally.  Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.

Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
