5 Questions
Mike Nourse is our new Director of Education. It's only his second week, but we thought is was high time he was challenged to our 5 Questions.

1. Cubs or Sox?
I hate to say it, but neither. I stopped being a baseball fan when the Montreal Expos packed up and moved. If I had to choose, I'd say Sox, because now I live closer.
[In case you hadn't guessed, Mike = Canadian].

2. What's your favorite form of petty crime?
Probably dressing up for Halloween to get candy.

3. What was your favorite Halloween costume?
I would have to say the Halloween costume I enjoyed the most was the Luke Skywalker costume I wore when I was 7 years old. That would have to include the broomstick painted gold [light saber] and the winter coat my mom made me wear over it [again, Canada].

4. In a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors what is your weapon of choice?
Uh, it's definitely rock because you can always have some collateral damage when you throw that out. Whereas, with paper and scissors you look like you're saying "hi" or "peace" to somebody.

5. Can I buy you drink?
Can you buy me a drink?  That's a question for you. I know I would allow you to buy me a drink, but are you willing to spend the money on little old me?
Closed for Labor Day

The Art Center will be closed Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. We'll be back open on Tuesday, September 6. Enjoy the long weekend!
Artist in Residence Open Studios
Hang out with Emmanuel Pratt and G.E.E.E. at the Art Center this week

Tomorrow promises to be one of the most eco-friendly open studios the Art Center has ever seen.

Join artist-in-residence Emmanuel Pratt from 6-8pm as he shows off the work he's been doing in his upstairs studio. You can enjoy wine and cheese as Pratt walks you through his artist studio/community think tank. He'll show off his aquaponic systems, murals, and much more.

In addition to Pratt, G.E.E.E. will be open for business as well. Meet with the artists behind this innovative post-retail shop. Discuss bartering, gardening, and other ideas about sustainability. You may even get some heirloom tomatoes out of the deal. Bonus!
New on the blog
Reports from our student blogger, Bo Brown

This week, Bo discusses the value of critique and shares her strategy for receiving criticism. And to keep things light, she's also thrown in some photos of her most recent project, an aquatint landscape print.
How to save on fall classes
Take advantage of our early registration discount

You know the drill. It's early registration time. Register before September 18 to receive $10 off your fall class.

And don't forget school's out September 23. Instead of just sitting around the house all day, your child can actually build the house at our Days Off School program. That's right, we're making shelters and structures all day long. To register call 773-324-5520 or click here.
Thanks for the memories
Show and Tell has ended, but we'll always have the memories!

We want to send out the BIGGEST THANKS to everyone who participated in the Art Center's Show and Tell!

All of your involvement raised essential support that allows the Art Center to provide programs to see, make, learn, and discuss art with over 45,000 people every year.

And though everyone's submissions were our favorites, we do have a special place in our heart for the official Hyde Park Art Center dinosaur. The green even kind of matched our floors.

Now, just because the Show and Tell is over, it doesn't mean we want to you to be a stranger. Visit www.hydeparkart.org/get-involved to find out how you can get involved at the Art Center, or click here to support your favorite programs or become an Art Center member today.
