Jackson Hole, Wyoming - August 31, 2011 – A bear captured on paper with Conté crayon by late wildlife art great Robert Kuhn, is sure to be a hotly contested item at the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s 24th annual Western Visions®
in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, according to the museum’s Curator of Art Adam Harris. The sketch, donated by Kuhn’s family, is one of more than 1,000 contemporary artworks on display and for sale at the popular annual fundraiser. A month-long cultural tourism-draw to the area – and a cornerstone of the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival – the 2011 Western Visions combines art demos and fabulous parties with the opportunity to see and purchase the best of Western contemporary art at the museum through Sept. 28.
“The bidding should be exciting for the Kuhn sketch,” says Harris, who adds that “This year’s Western Visions promises something for everybody. Along with favorite artists from previous years, we have a host of new painters and sculptors who add to the wide variety of subjects and styles available.”
In addition to appreciating the art of others, guests can try their own hands at creating in special workshops with the Western Visions featured artists for 2011. Daniel Smith
, a Montana painter sometimes categorized as a “photo-realist” for his lifelike wildlife depictions, will lead a free “Miniature Masterpieces with the Artist” demo with a chance to paint your own mini-work Sept. 13 from 5 – 7 p.m. And 25 art fans can participate in a hands-on program and luncheon with Bart Walter, a Maryland sculptor whose work offers a unique dynamic approach to surface, on Sept. 15, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., for $60; register
by Sept. 7.
2011 Western Visions scheduled events include the Sketch Show & Sale and Original Prints Show & Sale, on view through Sept. 25; and Palates & Palettes, with mini-quesadillas and margaritas accompanying the art on display, Sept. 9. The Jewelry and Artisan Luncheon takes place Sept. 14, with the 24th Annual Wild West Artist Party offering live music and meet-the-artist opps the evening of Sept. 15. Start placing your bids Sept. 3 for the drawing during the big event, the 24th Annual Miniatures and More Show & Sale, Sept. 16. And on Sept. 28, a coffee-in-the-gallery Art A’ Brewin’ event allows a final chance to browse works still available for sale.
