FILM
Project NIM
Special Guest Bob Ingersoll, Project NIM teacher, will be present for Q&A's
after each screening
Thursday, September 1, 7:30pm Friday & Saturday, September 2 - 3, 5:30pm & 8pm Sunday, September 4, 2pm From the Oscar-winning team behind MAN ON WIRE comes the story of Nim, the chimpanzee who was born in Oklahoma in the 1970s and became the focus of a landmark experiment which that aimed to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Following Nim's extraordinary journey through human society, and the enduring impact he makes on the people he meets along the way, the film is an unflinching and unsentimental biography of an animal we tried to make human. What we learn about his true nature -- and indeed our own -- is comic, revealing, and profoundly unsettling. Director: James Marsh 2011 GB/USA 93min. PG-13 35mm. Copresented by Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary. Listen to the NPR interview & see the NewsOK interview here.
Read the Oklahoma Gazette cover story by Phil Bachaarch. Dinner & A Movie in the Museum Cafe! $28 includes dinner & film ticket per person. Reservations required, call (405) 235-6262. FILM HELD OVER BY POPULAR DEMAND
Cave of Forgotten Dreams screens twice tonight, 5:30pm & 8pm. Last chance to see earliest human art ever discovered. A breathtaking new documentary from the incomparable Werner Herzog follows an exclusive expedition into the nearly inaccessible Chauvet Cave in France, home to the most ancient visual art known to have been created by man. It is an unforgettable cinematic experience that provides a unique glimpse of pristine artwork dating back to human hands over 30,000 years ago-almost twice as old as any previous discovery.
