We're thrilled to kick off an incredible season of Fall programming next week with UTOPIA=No Place, a FREE jam session (bring along an instrument!) and installation (involving 400 lbs. of dirt) led by Artist-in-Residence Prince Rama. The following day, the venerable Either/Or ensemble performs cutting-edge works by Keeril Macon, Richard Carrick, & Hans Thomalla. Finally, in recognition of the 10th anniversary of September 11, ISSUE will co-present a free performance of a live orchestration of William Basinki's "The Disintegration Loops" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in collaboration with Worldless Music.

Artist-in-Residence:
Prince Rama
2011 Artist-in-Residence Prince Rama will transform ISSUE into a point of origins. They will construct a “sacred space” using gathered matter from off-site urban wilds of Brooklyn. Audience members will be invited to build their own instruments and utilize them in an extended jam session open to anyone who wishes to attend (regardless of musical skill). This aims to investigate the utopian symbology of “the jam session” as a poetic reenactment and microcosmic creation of an ideal democratic society. Cut off from the rest of the world, yet wholly imbedded within it, this ritual space becomes a NO PLACE.
**PLEASE BRING ALONG AN INSTRUMENT!**
ISSUE’s Artist-in-Residence program is made possible, in part, through generous support from the Jerome Foundation, the Suzanne Fiol Memorial Fund, and with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York’s 62 counties.
09/09 @ 8:00pm -
Either/Or
Either/Or is a cutting-edge contemporary music ensemble based in New York City. Founded in 2004 by pianist/composer Richard Carrick and percussionist David Shively, Either/Or focuses on compelling new and recent works for unconventional ensemble formations rarely heard elsewhere. The group draws upon its roster, featuring some of New York’s leading interpreters, to present intense chamber music alongside larger ensemble works.
Either/Or will present a program featuring:
Richard Carrick – Shadow Flow
Hans Thomalla – Piano Counterpart
Keeril Makan – Zones d’accord
Keeril Makan – Mu
Keeril Makan – Voice within voice

09/11 @ 8:00pm - Share – free audio & video jam
SHARE is first and foremost a platform to explore expression, in a variety of artforms. Through its weekly open jam sessions, SHARE.nyc engages its participants and spectators in a continually changing dialog on art and culture. As such, SHARE represents an ongoing exploration of collaborative performance as cultural exchange. It mines the relationship of artistic practice to cultural identity, remapping a multiplicity of cultural discourses. The act of creating artistic content in a multicultural collaborative context is a fascinating and natural extension of the SHARE concept.
Share is an open jam, not just for digirati, but for all new culture lovers. Participants bring their portable equipment, plug into our system, improvise on each others’ signal and perform live audio and video. We furnish the amplification and projection. Share happens every Sunday.
