It’s that time in the competition where Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), in conjunction with the Association of the Arts Pretoria, encourages all prospective participants to bring their vision to life and submit their Young Concrete Sculptor competition entries before 29 September 2011.  More here.

 

 

 
 

PPC YCSA COMPETITION PROFILE: Marieke’s Vision

Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe depicts the modern woman in society by pursuing her dreams.  As an artist she is a successful concrete sculptor and the winner of the 1999 PPC Cement’s Young Concrete Sculptor Awards (YCSA) Competition.  She balances her work and home life with two energetic children, being inspired and challenged by the new set of creative demands. Bridget Baker to exhibit in London:

CHRISTIAN FERREIRA AT THE WAPPING PROJECT is pleased to announce Wrecking at Private Siding 661, the first solo presentation in London by South African artist Bridget Baker. The exhibition will run from 29 September 2011 - 21 January 2012. More here.

 
 

Michaelis exhibitions focus on the environment:

 

The Michaelis Galleries and Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA) present two exhibitions from 24 September to 19 October.

Michaelis Senior Lecturer Virginia MacKenny curates Threshold. A Conversation with Bolus: Science, sensibility, sensuality will be exhibited in the Michaelis Upper Gallery, and curated by Nadja Daehnke. More here.

Organisers of the Tori Amos concerts have added an extra show to the Cornflake Girl's South African tour in November since announcing she would be touring the country. Tickets for Amos's Joburg shows sold out in three hours after becoming available. More here.

The Fugard Theatre’s Cultural Screenings:

 

The Fugard Theatre features opera and ballet and a season of films starring Dame Janet Suzman. These monthly screenings are in full high-definition and dolby surround-sound on an enormous cinema screen in the theatre comfort of the Fugard Theatre Bioscope. More here.

 
 

Handspring Puppetry Awards Announced:

 

The winners of the second Handspring Puppetry Awards were announced at the closing ceremony of the 2011 Out the Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Theatre, held on Sunday 11 September at the Little Theatre on UCT's Hiddingh Campus. More here.
