d. m. allison opens it's doors for the first time with one of Houston's
most recognized artists. Born in Orange Texas in 1943, Perry House
graduated from the California College of Arts, Oakland, CA in 1970 and
has been living and working in Houston for the last 30 years. As
Houston's art scene was coming of age, House was one of the early
pioneers of abstraction, showing with some of the most historically
notable galleries in Houston, including William Graham, Davis/McClain,
and Inman galleries. In the collection of the Houston Museum of Fine
Arts, the artist received an NEA fellowship award in 1990 and mounted
solo efforts at Diverse Works in 2000, curated by Susie Kalil, and 2004
at the Galveston Arts Center curated by Clint Willour. This month a
retrospective of 34 years of the artist's works is on view at the
Houston Community College downtown gallery and large scale works will be
offered in a solo exhibition at Houston's Art Car Museum later this year.

Note: I would like to thank everyone for helping make the purchase and
renovation at 2709 Colquitt possible. First, to the artists and patrons
who's continued strong support through a hurricane, an economic
downturn, and endless street construction last year not only kept the
doors open at Nau-haus but gave us the resourses to move forward with
the gallery on Colquitt this summer.

Secondly, many thanks to Ronnie and Robbie Starbuck, who worked many
long days renovating the gallery space through the hottest summer
Houston has ever seen.

And lastly to Douglas, Joan, and Joanie McLeod who trusted and shared my
vision of what 2709 Colquitt could become with a little hard work and love.

Dan M. Allison
