OPENING EVENT
EXCURSUS I:
REFERENCE LIBRARY
UP ON MY BACK, AND I WILL TAKE YOU THITHER
Wednesday, September 14 @ 6:30pm
Join us for the launch of Excursus, a new series that invites the public to come together, converse, and peruse ICA's archival material in the context of the present. Designer Andy Beach, known for his blog and curatorial interventions under the name Reference Library, inaugurates the series with Up on My Back, and I Will Take You Thither, a project that takes inspiration from the Centaur Book Shop, Philadelphia's own Prohibition-era radical press, record store, and bohemian meeting place.
Celebrate the opening with a talk about the Centaur by curator Lynne Farrington of Penn's Rare Book and Manuscript Library. To be followed by an after hours reception on the ICA terrace.
LESLIE HEWITT –
PENNDESIGN FINE ARTS LECTURE SERIES @ ICA
Thursday, September 15 @ 6:30pm
Hear artists speak about their work in this series co-sponsored by PennDesign Fine Arts and ICA. This evening's
lecture welcomes artist Leslie Hewitt. With her work in photography and other media, Ms. Hewitt tries to
restructure pieces of American history by inserting people, things, and icons forgotten by the times and give
them new purpose in the present.
