Big Draw: theViewergallery

Date: Saturday 1st October 2011, 10am and 4pm

Venue: Original Gallery, Hornsey LibraryN8 9JA

theViewergallery is an online, onsite, popup art gallery, an area and arena devised by artist Eleanor MacFarlane for art projects, enterprises, artworks and sometimes collaborations with other artists.

It is a Big Draw day, with drawing activities and exhibitions:

·         theLongLine - invites participants to create a continuous landscape, matching three elements – Sky, Land and Sea. Whose drawing will yours sit next to – a famous artist, a child who will grow up to be a famous artist, someone from the other side of the world, a visionary, a scribbler?

·         theProgressiveImage - screening of contemporary Moving Image/Video Art/Animation by artists on the theme of drawing.

·         Absolute Magnitude - touring postcard exhibition by current MA Fine Art students on the theme of Sun. 

Just pop in, no booking is necessary and admission is free.

 

BHM ART 2011 Private View

Date: Wednesday 12th October, 7 to 9pm

Venue: Original Gallery, Hornsey Library

Join us for this year’s BHM private view, a chance to celebrate yet another collection of fantastic art, inspired by black culture, people and issues.

The evening will be an opportunity to see two of this year’s exhibitions- I am Thenublack, a selection of contemporary art; and Wall of Sound, a collection of portraits. There will also be poetry readings by local poet, Abe Gibson.

 

I am Thenublack

Venue: Original Gallery, Hornsey Library

Dates: Weds 5th to Sat 29th October 2011

This exhibition celebrates the talents of a generation of youth born to parents of the African Diaspora.

Through a variety of disciplines, from illustration to photography this collection of work conveys the rich heritage of contemporary Black culture.

Wall of Sound

Venue: Promenade Gallery, Hornsey Library

Dates: Weds 5th to Sat 29th October 2011

An exhibition of portraits in performance jazz, rap and elemental power by Annalouise Oakland.

(Music Afternoon:

Date: Wednesday 26th October, 5 to 7pm

Join us for a gathering of singers specially selected by Annalouise Oakland for Black History Month 2011. Guest will include Janine Johnson and her troupe, Matisse.)

Same Sex Kiss

Venue: St. Ann’s Library, Cissbury Road, N15 5PU

Dates: Weds 5th to Sat 29th October 2011

A collection of Image Collage works by GFEST artistic director & multimedia artist Niranjan Kamatkar.

The exhibition aims to highlight the progress made by LGBT issues in public life and to celebrate GFEST.

 

Broadwater Farm: the Story of a Community 1967 -2010

Venue: Bruce Castle Museum, Lordship Lane, N17 8NU

Dates: Until March 2012 (Wed to Sun, 1 to 5pm)

An exhibition curated by Odin Biddulph, charting the community’s achievements, and changes following the disturbances 26 years ago.

 

Forgotten

Venue: Bruce Castle Museum, Lordship Lane, N17 8NU

Dates: 5th October to 22nd December (Wed to Sun, 1 to 5pm)

A photo documentary by Elaine Bandele, combating the media's negative representation of African and Caribbean youth.
