Ménage à Trios: An Evening with Garth, Mark...and Beato
Join ceramic scholars and visionary gallerists Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio for an evening of insightful conversation and reflection as they look back on the prolific career of Beatrice Wood. Through the vision and encouragement of Clark and Del Vecchio, Beato--as Wood was known by her friends--grew to international prominence as a ceramicist. Clark and Del Vecchio offer a unique perspective that will bring Beato's spirit to life through anecdotes and remembrances, and trace her growth as an artist alongside the history and evolution of Twentieth Century ceramics. This conversation presents a rare opportunity to explore Wood as both artist and artistic persona in the company of those who knew her best.

Vulcan God: Lucio Fontana and Ceramics
Garth Clark presents a scholarly assessment of Italian-Argentinean artist Lucio Fontana. Recognized as a forebear of post World War II Italian art, Fontana is best known for his iconic oil paintings and vibrant slashed canvases. Often overlooked, however, is the significant body of ceramic work Fontana produced throughout his career. SMMoA invites you to join Clark as he explores Fontana's long experimentation and work in clay--from early figurative objects to late abstract sculptures.
Please join us for a champagne reception following the lecture.

Meet Our Member: Susie GesundheitMember and Patron since 2011 "The Santa Monica Museum of Art engages on a personal scale."
"In 2006 I first visited SMMoA to view the exhibition, Enigma Variations: Philip Guston and Giorgio de Chirico. Guston, one of my mother's uncles, was a relative I never knew--and as such, the show had important personal meaning for me. Now as a SMMoA member, I have become part of a family that extends beyond my connection to Guston. SMMoA has made a strong and memorable impression on me. The Museum creates a welcoming and personal space to engage in inventive programs and exhibitions. At SMMoA annual events evolve rather than recur--you never know what to expect. While other museums seem to focus on the past, SMMoA propels forward and concentrates on what is to come. Membership helps to make this possible. My contribution to the Museum's current exhibition, Beatrice Wood: Career Woman is particularly meaningful. Beatrice is an icon--I had the privilege of knowing her; I admire her as an independent artist for her persona, humor, and exoticism. Through this exhibition, and my support, my life has been enriched."
Please join Susie and become a SMMoA member today. Help sustain diversity, innovation, and discovery in contemporary art. As a member, you will receive exclusive access to exhibition previews, inventive programs, educational workshops, and great discounts on eclectic shopping.
