DEC 2011 - FIRST FRIDAY IN PHILLY

First Friday -Philadelphia, PA -  Friday 12-2-11
While all of the art world (including all of the art writers and art bloggers with a budget) were down in Miami this week kicking off the opening of Art Basel, I was catching a bus bound for Philadelphia for their beer and wine fueled First Friday art crawl. I've attended at least a dozen Philly first Friday events, but this would be my first in over a year.

PATRICE O'NEAL REMEMBERED

New York, NY -  Thursday 11-29-11
Comedy lost one of it's brightest minds last week.   Patrice O'Neal was raw and real, a larger than life character who didn't care if you were offended, he told it how it was - and it was hilarious.   I was lucky enough to not only draw him in a portrait I did for Opie & Anthony back in 2006, but I also got to attend his intimate XM interview "Unmasked" with Ron Bennington (photo above by Cojo), and most recently was in the audience for his comedy central special, ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM  which my girlfriend Molly was one of the audience coordinators for.  Three great memories I can share with you about a great comic who never got the props he truly deserved.

WSP $16M FOUNTAIN SHIFT
Washington Square Park, New York, NY - 2007-2009
Back in 2007, in order to make 5th Avenue more aesthetically pleasing, The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation with the funding by the city of New York, the Tish family, and NYU, broke dirt on a $16 Million Dollar redesign of the park focusing around the "relocation "of the historic fountain from it's slightly westward location 22-23 feet to the East (the fountain was previously aligned with the center of the park). This would line it up with the center of the arch and 5th Avenue.  I documented the entire process in photos.
