January 6 - 29, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, January 6th, 8-11 pm

Gossett

Frieda Gossett Birds
Frieda Gossett loves things that fly. She creates birds, kites and insects with a twist; their lighter than air, delicate natures run counter to her chosen medium -  rugged hand tooled leather best suited for boots and saddles. Birds displays Gossett's dedication to her leather aviary while shifting her focus to 'famous aircraft.' Gossett's father was in the Air Force and even though she hates flying, she salutes her father's passion for airplanes and incorporates her passion for birds, mixing up natural flight and man-made flying machines.

A graduate of Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, California, Gossett resides in Pasadena with her husband and three dogs.

Manukyan

Alexandra Manukyan Secrets and Confession

Alexandra Manukyan focuses on combining traditional oil painting techniques with surrealist symbolism to communicate the immediate and lasting impact of technological innovations on the human body and psyche. One recurring motif in her paintings often appears as the feminine form bearing the burdens of worldly grief and mistakes on her body, bowing in resignation to a seemingly inevitable fate: the acquiescence of the corporeal state to the encroaching dominance of modern technologies conjoining itself like an apathetic demon of silicon and circuitry cursing more than fulfilling promises of beauty and comfort.

Manukyan is a graduate of the State University and The College of Fine Art and Design in Yerevan/Armenia as well as the Los Angeles Trade/Technical College and attended UCLA. A resident of Los Angeles, Manukyan works in the fashion and entertainment industries as a designer and graphic artist. www.alexandramanukyan.com

Sapp

Krystopher Sapp My Arsenal
While visiting the arms and armament section of the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York, sculpture/ assemblage artist Krystoper Sapp was inspired to take weapons that are meant to maim and kill and turn them into something much more than tools of death. For My Arsenal, Sapp has created two bodies of work: "Our Guns Never Tire" and "When A Good Man Goes To War." The pieces are made from rifle parts, hand guns and even a Soviet machine-gun from World War II.

Sapp is a luminary in the Southern California Dark Art scene. He creates highly detailed worlds in the form of mixed media sculptures based in doom and horror, molding them into a vision of beauty.
