Au cours des quelque dix dernières années, l’impact mondial de l’art conceptuel a fait l’objet de nombreuses études et expositions historiques. Au Canada, cependant, l’attention portée à l’art conceptuel a été limitée. Trafic. L’art conceptuel au Canada 1965-1980 est la première exposition majeure à explorer l’influence et la diversité de l’art conceptuel au Canada. Elle réunit des œuvres de plus de soixante-dix artistes qui ont participé, sur le plan local, à ce phénomène international.
Composée de centaines d'œuvres et de documents d'archives, l'exposition itinérante Trafic. L'art conceptuel au Canada 1965-1980 sera présentée à Montréal suite à son passage à Toronto, à Halifax et à Edmonton. Divisé en deux volets, cet important projet commissarial occupera les espaces de la Galerie Leonard & Bina Ellen. Le public découvrira des pratiques artistiques conceptuelles de Montréal, Toronto, London et Guelph dans le premier volet du 13 janvier au 25 février, alors que son attention se portera sur celles d'Halifax, de Vancouver, des Prairies et de l'Arctique du 16 mars au 28 avril.

In the past decade, the global impact of conceptual art has been the subject of numerous historical studies and exhibitions. Its various manifestations in Canada, however, have remained a limited concern. Traffic: Conceptual Art in Canada 1965-1980 is the first major exhibition to track the influence and diversity of conceptual art across Canada, bringing together works by over 70 artists who participated locally in this international phenomenon.
Featuring hundreds of artworks and archival documents, the travelling exhibition Traffic: Conceptual Art in Canada 1965-1980 arrives in Montreal after being previously shown in Toronto, Halifax, and Edmonton. Presented in two parts at the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery in 2012, the first section focuses on conceptual art in Montreal, Toronto, London, and Guelph from January 13 to February 25, while the second section is devoted to Halifax, Vancouver, the Prairies, and the Arctic, opens on March 16th.
