http://www.xanadugallery.com/Seminar/MichaelStern/Camera.jpg Your camera is one of
your most important tools as an artist. You use it both to capture
reference material and to create images of your art for marketing and
promotional purposes. Yet many artists know very little about how to
correctly employ this powerful tool. Are you using your camera to its
greatest effect?

Join us for a live, online workshop with professional photographer and
photography teacher Michael E. Stern. During this two-hour presentation
you will learn which buttons and dials to ignore and which ones to
thoughtfully adjust. Michael will help you understand basic yet critical
principles like whether JPEG or RAW is the right choice for file format.
The first hour will focus on the operation and mechanics of your camera.
Hour two will be an intensive study of the qualities of light and how to
identify them (hint: there are six).

Michael will also talk about the foundation of all photography:
exposure. Learn how exposure works and how to determine the technically
correct exposure every time and how to adjust the exposure to get
exactly what you want.

Michael will share many examples and your questions will be encouraged.

If you own a camera already, it will be helpful for you to have the
operation manual handy as you will to refer to it during the
presentation.

A .pdf of the presentation will be available for download after the
workshop.

Michael E. Stern picked up his first camera at age 12 and has yet to put
it down. Self-taught by way of a homemade darkroom, he continued his
photography education in Jr. and Sr. high schools, Cal State Northridge
and Art Center College of Design where he earned a BFA in 1979.

http://www.xanadugallery.com/Seminar/MichaelStern/MichaelStern.jpg Michael
has owned and operated small, medium and large commercial studios in
Hollywood, North Hollywood and Burbank, CA. He began shooting movie
posters for ad agencies and multimedia productions for Star-Kist Foods.
After relocating to Burbank in 1982, he began producing photographs for
companies specializing in van conversions, building design and
construction.

Michael started working with The Walt Disney Company in 1982 and has
been working with them ever since. He has also worked with Warner
Brothers, Universal, Paramount Studios and Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures.
He photographs executives, celebrities, products and architecture. His
reputation is one of quality, creativity and making the deadlines. In
2011 he added time-lapse photography to list of services.

In 1995 he began learning everything he could about digital capture and
in 2000 he scanned, restored and printed 140 aviation-themed historical
photographs for Disney's California Adventure. As a digital restoration
artist Michael continues to work on projects for educational
institutions, companies and private parties.

Michael has taught and continues to teach at a variety of educational
institutions, teaching photographic theory, Photoshop, pre-press, artist
business practices and how to be successful at self-employment. His
first book: Build A Better Photograph, A Disciplined Approach To
Creativity, is an informative look at his approach to maintaining a
professional photography presence beyond f/stops and shutter speeds. His
radio show: "Build A Better Photograph" is aimed at advanced amateurs,
college students and early career professionals.
