  Silver Eye Center for Photography presents

Dawoud Bey Lecture & Booksigning

Dawoud Bey has completed a number of important photographic projects involving teens, schools and cultural institutions. In this lecture, the artist discusses Class Pictures and other major collaborations within the context of his distinguished career as a photographer, teacher and writer. This program is co-sponsored with the Carnegie Museum of Art.

Organized by the Aperture Foundation, Silver Eye Center for Photography is the last stop in the exhibition's national tour, which included the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Indianapolis Museum of Art; and Milwaukee Art Museum, among others. This is Dawoud Bey's first solo exhibition in Pittsburgh.
 

Dawoud Bey received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University in 1993 and is currently a professor of photography at Columbia College, Chicago. He has received awards and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, and a 2011 Lucie Award in Portraiture.

 

Dawoud Bey's work has also been featured in solo and group exhibitions at worldwide venues, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography;  the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA.  

 

Yale University Press will publish Bey's Harlem, USA in conjunction with the The Art Institute of Chicago's exhibition this spring.   

 

Silver Eye Center for Photography is located in Pittsburgh's historic Southside at 1015 East Carson Street between 10th and 11th Streets. Admission is free. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12 Noon - 6 p.m. or by appointment for school and university groups.
