Anonymous Gallery recently opened a group exhibition at its Mexico City
location titled, Casa de Empeño (HOUSE OF PAWN)
http://anonymousgallery.com/art/current-exhibitions/casa-de-empeno/.
The show is a group exhibition based conceptually on the function of a
pawnshop and serves to examine current systems of economy, currency and exchange.
In New York, during Armory Arts Week, Anonymous Gallery will re-examine the concept;
providing unique opportunities for collectors to purchase distinctive works of art through
sale, loan or even trade. However, taking the concept one step further, the gallery will be
creating a literal house of pawn. Using a 24ft 1964 Vintage Airstream trailer, Anonymous Gallery
has re-designed the original mobile-home interior to serve a retail purpose; stocking it full of
distinctive art objects. Throughout the week, this house of pawn will be traveling to various
Armory Art Week locations and opening its doors to customers who seek a unique
experience with art and commerce. March 8 – 11.

TIMES AND LOCATIONS WILL BE LISTED ON THE ANONYMOUS GALLERY WEBSITE:

http://anonymousgallery.com/art/projects/current/cde-nyc/
(please note locations are subject to slight changes)

In a typical pawnshop customers pledge property as collateral, and in return,
pawnbrokers lend them money. When customers pay back the loan, their merchandise
is returned to them. If the loan is not returned the pawnshop sells this property.
Anonymous Gallery however, will be providing several opportunities for its customers:

                            1)  Purchase
                                 a. Customers can purchase available inventory at the set retail price.

                            2)    Trade
                                 a. Customers can offer a provided service of equal or greater value in exchange for selected artwork.
                                 b. Customers can offer another item of equal or greater value in exchange for valuable artwork.

                            3)   Loan
                                 a. Throughout the duration of the exhibition customers can loan and consign works
of art to the gallery for sale at an agreed retail price.
                                 b. Customers can borrow or rent artworks for a specified duration of time based on a fee
established by the gallery and selected artist.
