For the 9th of the PooL Art fair in New York, Frere Independent is excited to present artists from the Islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe to exhibit along side other talented international artists. This group of more than 20 souls is comprised of artists with a variety of experience and art practice. Martine Baker works exclusively with Raku and offers objects that challenge some of our understanding of the collision between nature and manmade. Former fashion model Aiva revisits the monochromatic field and ads her own sense of aesthetic to the legacy of Yves Klein and Soulage. Freshly graduated from Beaux Arts de Cergy, Samuel Gelas prefers large canvases. There he presents people from his community and others that interact in a simultaneously peaceful and disturbing manner. The scenes seem quiet and suspended, like a photograph that tries to convince the public that the violence is on the other side.

This project is the successor of the Project New York in which Frere Independent presented 1 artist from Guadeloupe every Year at PooL Art Fair New York. With the help of Habdaphai, Elisabeth Gustave, Martine Baker and Muriel Lantin, we are able to give many more artists from this region access to the New York art scene. We send out a general call for artists locally and hold a large exhibition at T&T Art Contemporain in Guadeloupe and Villa Chanteclerc in Martinique. At these shows artists sold works and raised money and awareness to make their trips and participation possible.

We want to thank all the sponsors, institutions and private collectors that participated and acquired art works locally. We want to thank The Martinique Promotion Bureau who also participated in the project here in New York. The artists will be exhibiting throughout the 4 dedicated floors of the Flatiron Toshi Hotel, with other international artists. We invite you to come and meet all of us and discover our art.

Frere Independent is proud to invite you to the 9th edition of PooL Art Fair New York. The show opens at 3pm on Friday March 9 at the brand New Flat Iron Toshi Hotel. The celebrity owned hotel is located at the corner of 26th street and Broadway.

This year's great list of talented artists includes returning exhibitors from the Miami 2011 interrupted show and a special group of artists from invited countries Guadeloupe & Martinique.

In addition to its 60+ exhibitors spread throughout 4 floors, the program includes parties, live performances and lectures. Pierz Morgan's star guest Sean Stone joins the host committee to support and honor the legacy of Civil rights activist Amelia B. Robinson at 5pm on Friday.

PooL is the premier exhibition to present great, independent artists who are otherwise unrepresented during the Armory Show week in New York.

The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the "Art Fair" experience for dealers and collectors as well as the general public. PooL's purpose is to create a meeting ground for outstanding artists, primarily those who do not yet have gallery representation. The fair serves as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public.

PooL Art Fair offers artists the opportunity to be a part of the unique and important cultural environment that manifests during that week in March. Manhattan fills with art enthusiasts from around the world. PooL Art Fair lives at the center of the excitement.

Artists are able to expand their networks and receive invitations to exhibit or create
site-specific works. They can also sell works.

We select artists whose works are original and challenging. Exhibiting artists use hotel guest rooms to display their work creating a unique and personal setting. We ask that they share with the public their most recent works.
