Summertime, and the art is amazing
 
June at the Art Center  has a lot to offer thirsty art patrons. Check out what we've got on tap for you this month: an opening reception for two solo exhibitions by women artists, an arty garden party, a musical performance, and artist talks galore
 
And for those of you with a hunger for making, Prints & Pints is coming up mid-month, along with the beginning of Summer Camps and Summer Quarter classes, with brand new sessions and courses on offer. Don't miss out - head over to our website to take a look at our can't-miss roster of classes and to register online.
 
So kick off the summer season at the Art Center! With so much to see and do in June, you're sure to get your summer off to an artful start.

Openings and artist talks
 
June 3, 3-5pm
Join artists Ani Afshar and Melissa Oresky as they celebrate their solo shows at the Art Center. Ani Afshar will discuss the intricate, hand-woven wall hangings and new tulle veil constructions in her show, “Woven Gardens, Shredded Shadows ,” on view from May 20 until September 2. Melissa Oresky will talk about her new works on paper and video in her exhibition “Trail ,” on view from May 6 until August 19. Check out the blog to learn more about the artists.
 
Free concert by the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians
June 3, 2-4 pm
How does your garden grow? Come enjoy the musical stylings of artists from the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians as they perform inside Faheem Majeed's installation, "Planting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden ," part of the "Hairy Blob" exhibition. for more.
 
June 10, 3-5 pm
Watching for water. Sarah FitzSimons' photo installation, “Pier,”  part of the group show "Hairy Blob ," presents a mysterious structure in a long-empty lake basin, evoking deep, geologic time while also indicating a future when the land may again be covered in water. Hear directly from the artist about her process, practice, and upcoming projects. to read more.
 
June 14, 6-7 pm
Reduce, reuse, recycle - and grow, grow, grow! Don't you just love G.E.E.E.'s trading outpost and tomato garden? Come chat with the artists behind the awesomeness! Omaha-based exhibiting artist Watie White and Art Center residency project G.E.E.E. (General Economy, Exquisite Exchange) will discuss neighborhood exchange programs they’ve participated in at the Hyde Park Art Center and the Union for Contemporary Art in Omaha. for more info.

Big Dig Gig!
Join G.E.E.E. for an arty garden party

June 2, 10 am - 3 pm
Aren't you just itching to get your hands dirty? Kick off the summer season at an arty garden party with Art Center residency project, “General Economy, Exquisite Exchange”: G.E.E.E.! Join us at the Big Dig Gig and help G.E.E.E. keep the Art Center beautiful by trading or donating surplus plants from your spring gardening, pruning the Art Center’s landscaping, or helping plant new local flora. In return, you get to take home a beautiful heirloom tomato seedling! to read more.

June 15, 7-11 pm
Still searching for your muse? Find her at Prints & Pints, where you can prime yourself for creating your printed masterpiece by gallery hopping to a live DJ while sipping suds from the cash bar. Teaching artist Elke Claus will show you how to make beautiful prints, layering images on top of each other to create true works of art. You can use materials provided by the Art Center, or bring t-shirts, fabric, paper - we'll print on anything! to find out more.
