For over 10 years, Tamar-kali has been brewing a brilliant concoction of soul and punk that goes from powerful to gentle to sassy to smooth with her unmatched voice and unmistakable compositions. On the first night of our three-day event, we present the first of Tamar-kali's influential voices.

Thursday, June 7: Psychochamber Ensemble
With special guest Joan as Police Woman

On the first night of her three day event at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse, Tamar-kali brings her brand of outside art with the Psychochamber Ensemble. Including deconstructed versions of songs from her 5-piece project and pieces arranged and composed specifically for strings.

For five years filmmaker Naimah Fuller examined the staggering number of blacks leaving major cities and relocating to the south. In her film Home: The Great Migration of the 21st Century, Naimah studied the “push-pull” factors of this new phenomenon by exploring historical and current conditions facing blacks in the North and the South.

For 19 years, Harlem Stage’s Fund for New Work has provided grants for emerging artists of color. Many have gone on to become acclaimed and award winning artists. Help us celebrate one of the most important aspects of our commissioning work at this first annual showcase featuring the work of Marjuan Canady, Maurice Chestnut, Maija Garcia, Eric Lockley, Will Rawls, Harrison David Rivers, Roberto Villanueva and Amma Whatt.

100 percent of your ticket price will be awarded to one of our artists for the creation of new work!
