Michael Hoza: Verdant Drama, Sky over Earth in central Ohio
On view at Dublin Arts Council June 19 through Aug. 4, 2012

DUBLIN, Ohio – (May 29, 2012) Michael Hoza: Verdant Drama, Sky over Earth in central Ohio, an exhibition of landscape paintings, will be on view in the Dublin Arts Council gallery, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, June 19 through Aug. 4. The exhibition opens with a reception with the artist at Dublin Arts Council on June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The drama existing within the forces of nature, illustrated through the land and sky of central Ohio, is the foundation for Hoza’s landscapes. He explains that although the environment is stable, it contains powerful and opposing forces that are “part of great and unending conflict and change.”

Hoza’s paintings revel in the complexity of understanding a single moment and place. His career began in filmmaking, through which Hoza began to explore illustrations of single moments in time. Hoza explains, “As good writing or movie making can condense time … a painting can expand time and enrich the experience of a single moment.”

Hoza is a self-taught artist who graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Philosophy. Hoza also received a Master of Arts from the Ohio State University in Sociology.

Hoza’s paintings have been commissioned for private and corporate collections. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Ohio and he co-created a site-specific video installation/sculpture titled Cathode Ray Landscape with his brother William Hoza in 1991 for the Wexner Center for the Arts at the Ohio State University.

Exhibition hours for Michael Hoza: Verdant Drama, Sky over Earth in central Ohio are Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition and opening reception, which is catered by Bleu & Fig, are free of charge.
