The Sotheby’s Art Handlers Are Back to Work!

The 10-month-long lockout of the Sotheby’s art handlers has come to a close, according to Crain’s New York. The new three-year deal boosts wages only 1% per year—considerably less than inflation—but protects existing union positions, raises starting salaries, and maintains benefits

Priska C. Juschka Court Case Reaches a Settlement

In April 2011, Paddy Johnson reported that artist Dana Melamed sued Priska C. Juschka in Federal Court. Gallery owners Priska Juschka and Arnold Katzen owed Melamed commission for the sale of artwork. Bushwick Open Studios: Everything But The Studios

All this week we’ve been recommending artist’s studios, but gallery spaces are joining in on the Bushwick Open Studios weekend, too. We sifted through the listings to pick out a few of our favorites. Among them, we’ve got neighborhood institutions like NurtureArt, Momenta Art, and “Mayor of Bushwick” Jules de Balincourt’s studio, but also brand-new spaces, sculpture gardens, walking tours, and a community darkroom. All are worth checking out, and to make it a little easier, we made you a map, too.

We spent all week posting artist interviews, and now we’re putting them together to make one handy recommendation list. It will make your life easier.

Trend Alert: Yayoi Kusama is Crazy

Yayoi Kusama is having one busy year. Her major retrospective at the Tate closes June 5th and will travel to the Whitney. Then there’s her collaboration with Louis Vuitton, which was announced just this week. Everything is on the up-and-up for the 83-year-old artist, assuming she doesn’t care about the amount of recent press devoted to her craziness. With Kusama’s exhibitions and fashion line, more people are coming out of the woodwork to discuss her notoriety as a kook—which includes living in a psychiatric ward across the street from her studio.
