Specialised in documentary photography, Roland Fischer (Saarbrücken, 1958), is one of the key figures in German contemporary art. His series Nuns and Monks marks the beginning of a widely recognized systematic study on portrait photography. However, without a doubt his series Los Angeles Portraits (1990-1994) represents the zenith of his artistic career, focused on different perceptions of the image. Fischer developed the series in Los Angeles, with a highly sophisticated mise en scène, with models placed in a swimming pool, above the smooth, monochrome blue surface of the water. This edition is made with a piece that has never been published and gathers all the characteristics that define this work as one of the most outstanding current photographic portraits. Roland Fischer later based his work in China, capturing group portraits (Collective Portraits, 2002) and architectural facades (Façades, 1998-2010), investigating different visual approaches with a clear tendency towards the abstract image.

Roland Fischer's works are continually on exhibit in major museums and art centres and are present in some of the most important collections in Europe: Colección Helga de Alvear (Madrid), Bibliotheque National (Paris), Thyssen-Bornemisza (Salzburg), Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville (Paris), Goldman Sachs (London), Museum Voor Fotografie, (Amsterdam) and  Museum für Moderne Kunst (Antwerpen), among others.
