Qiu Zhijie (b. 1969, Fujian Province, China) one of China's most versatile artists, draws from major political and historical narratives to produce large-scale ink-based maps and diagrams. From Confucianism to Enlightenment, Qiu Zhijie charts new paths, centers, nodes and relationships, scrutinizing the mutable boundaries that outline histories of world thought. Qiu Zhijie developed these series of mappings of the contemporary world based on several concepts that are summarized in the following maps: Map of 21st century; Map of Utopia; Map of Total Art; Map of Chinese History; Map of Nanjing Yangzi River and Map of Spirit Renew.

About Prompts & Triggers
26 April 2012 – 6 January 2013
Prompt & Triggers is a series of propositions by visual artists from across the globe that activates reflections on the notion of civilization and enables possibilities for comparative readings. Presented in the form of installations, library projects and a discursive program, this multitude of propositions work with urgent topics that pertain to the current European context, such as religion or the emergence of China in the global economy. Prompts & Triggers invites visitors to join in a new shared cultural ritual in which dialogue is pivotal. Prompts & Triggers began on 26 April 2012 with Meriç Algün Ringborg’s work Line No. 2 (Holy Bible) (2012) and is now followed by Qiu Zhijie’s Blueprints(2012). Prompts & Triggers takes place on Witte de With’s 3rd floor and also makes use of the schooling environment space on the 2nd floor designed by Studio Miessen.
