Summer Adventures are Here!
Daytime Sessions from July-August

The Revolving Museum is pleased to announce our first Summer Arts and Culture Experience!
  • Ages 8 - 12 year olds.
  • One week long session that meets Monday through Friday from 9am - 3pm at 290 Jackson Street, Lowell (JAM district)
  • Session dates available:
    July 9 - 13July 16 - 20July 23 - 27August 6 - 10
  • Tuition: Cost per week $350
    *Two week special rate $500

Program details...

Young participants will explore a variety of socially responsible art making techniques, cultural arts, literature, culinary and more.

Bring a bagged lunch daily except for Friday when we will provide a healthy lunch and youth will prepare creative, healthy snacks for the closing reception. Invite family and friends for a closing reception and art exhibit on Friday afternoon, beginning at 2:45.

Art Making

  • Painting - create a group mural on the RM tunnel wall, make paintings to bring home
  • Drawing - Make large scale shadow traces, projections and collage. Display art work in a group show during Folk Festival weekend.
  • Printmaking - use a variety of printmaking techniques to create multiples of your designs
  • Sculpture - Create a sculpture garden using found objects gathered on the Riverwalk field trip.

Fashion

  • Sewing - Learn hand sewing techniques and create a stuffed doll. Personalize your figure with your art work
  • Jewelry - Make woven bracelets, ankles and necklaces using a variety of colorful threads, yarns and beads.

Athletics

  • Break-dancing - Learn basic footwork and the foundations of break-dancing with Bernard Long, competitive break-dancer and experienced teacher. Break dancing is an icon of urban culture with a rich history of music and dance moves.
  • Capoeira - Learn about this exciting Afro- Brazilian martial art with Mestre Calango, 30 year capoeirista. Learn the history, music and basic moves of this culturally rich art form.
  • Outdoor games - Daily exercise is essential to our well being. If we're not break-dancing or playing capoeira we will be out in the school yard with jump ropes, balls, chalk and more, playing traditional outdoor games. Youth will also create an athletic obstacle course and make up game rules for a fun and challenging game.

Field trips

  • TIHC - Tsongas Industrial Historic Center
  • ATHM - American Textile History Museum
  • Riverwalk - The course stretches from the Bootte Cotton Mills to UMASS Lowell. This gem of the National Parks is one of the most scenic green spaces in Lowell. Along the route we will collect driftwood and other found objects, only that are safe, to create a whimsical sculpture garden back at the Revolving Museum's lawn.

Poetry

Learn to write Haiku poetry. Make prints of your poems. Write group poems using the "Exquisite Corpse" method.

Cooking

Learn to make healthy food choices and how to prepare them creatively. Bake healthy cookies and snacks !

Application Submission Deadline: June 25th with $100 refundable deposit

Each session must have a 10 student minimum enrollment in order to run; 20 students maximum.

Deposits are refunded if a class doesn't run due to low enrollment.
