An Online Workshop with A. D. Coleman
Leading American Critic and Writer on Photograph, A. D. Coleman,
will lead a workshop deconstructing the act of criticism through a selection of
his published essays.
By engaging critically with this set of carefully selected texts, in dialogue with their author, participants will come to understand how and why a critic elects to take specific positions at specific moments in time, and how the tactical decisions involved in such actions get made and executed. Participants can then bring the resulting awareness to their reading of the work of other writers, and (if they're educators) to their teaching, as well as to their own writing practice.
For this online workshop, participants will read ten essays by A. D. Coleman that this noted critic, historian, educator, and curator considers central to his ongoing project, which stretches back to 1968. Coleman and the participants will discuss his purposes in writing and publishing each of them; the strategic decisions involved (voice, tone, structure, vehicle); and the consequences, ranging from substantial to negligible.
Participants meet weekly using Skype audio.
Register by June 25th, workshop limited to 10 participants.
