You won’t want to miss this fabulous opportunity to acquire original artwork from some of the most prestigious artists in our community, gift certificates to Ventura’s leading restaurants, spa packages, and other fabulous gifts.
After a weekend devoted to showcasing Ventura’s leading artists during the Westside ArtWalk, Focus on the Masters is presenting a special evening of exquisite fine art courtesy of the FOTM documented artists, tantalizing delights donated by Aloha Restaurant and Savory Cafe and a benefit auction and after party that will help to keep arts education alive and thriving!
The setting is the former Museum of Ventura County location right at the crossroads of downtown Ventura – California and Santa Clara St!
The venue will be open throughout the weekend providing an opportunity to preview the auction items and learn more about FOTM – its extraordinary caliber of artists documented; it’s Archive, Library and outreach programs.
In addition to the work available for auction, several FOTM artists have been asked to showcase their work. Among the highlights will be a special installation of “Double Gravity Bend” a kinetic sculpture by Tom McMillin and George Geyer. These two artists often partner to mount site specific work that is environmentally astute. Made of tempered glass, the temporary installation responds to air currents and the environment. Both artists were featured in the Getty Museum’s monumental initiative Pacific Standard Time. Also on display will be the work of Christine Morla. Christine’s showcase piece “Rain” consists of hundreds of two dimensional paper constructions that are adhered to a wood panel creating a larger image. The paintings are built by first collecting multi-colored packaging from Filipino snack foods. The found papers are then cut into thin strips and meticulously woven together into geometric and floral shapes. The painting is then superimposed onto a constellation of weavings installed on the wall. Her weaving techniques were passed on to her by her father who was a professional weaver in the Philippines.
