The Three Picture Story - Documentary Photography WorkshopTutor: Glenn Edwards Sat 28th - Sun 29th July Cost £145 (£125 concessions) including materials Documentary photography is all about a story - finding it, researching it and finally telling it through photographs. The beauty of this is you can work on subjects that interest you, that you can become enthusiastic about. This course will look at the working methods and the make up of a picture story through words, film and practical workshop. Award winning photojournalist Glenn Edwards has over 100 foreign commissions including 80 to 18 African countries covering news stories from aids to politics, famine to tourism, three books and numerous exhibitions. BOOK HERE THROWING ON THE POTTER'S WHEEL FOR BEGINNERS AND IMPROVERS Tutor Roger Guy-Young Fri 10 - Sun 12 August Cost £165 (£145 concessions) including materials On this course Roger will ascertain each student's skill level (whether total novice or semi-pro) and help them to take a big step forward in a direction of their choice. As always he will be, systematic, patient and good humoured. This class is suitable for both absolute beginners, and those with some experience who are looking for some concentrated time and tuition to improve their skills. Roger is a highly experienced throwing tutor, and this combined with a small class sizes and wheel per person, ensures the maximum opportunity for success. BOOK HERE BILINGUAL PAINTING WORKSHOP WITH MARY LLOYD JONES: HISTORY BENEATH OUR FEETTutor: Mary Lloyd Jones Fri 10 - Sun 12 August Cost: £165 (£145 concessions) inc materials CORS FOCHNO / BORTH BOG Participants will create compositions in response to reflections in bog pools, exotic vegetation, mosses,grasses and lichen with a backdrop of mountains and the sea. One day of study on the bogland pathways will be followed by 2 days of studio practice developing ideas. Mary Lloyd Jones is a leading painter in Wales. A popular and effective teacher, her aim always is to help each student to find a personal voice. Note: this course is not suitable for complete beginners. BOOK HERE SCULPTING IN WAX FOR CASTING INTO BRONZETutor Amy Sterly Sat 18th Aug Cost £165 (£145 concessions) including materials This one day course teaches the techniques required to make a wax model required for a professional foundry to cast a bronze sculpture. Students will be taught how to sculpt directly in wax. They will learn all they need to know about materials, techniques, tools and safety to create their own sculptures in wax ready for casting in bronze. Work produced will be taken away and cast at a Foundry at a later date - (not part of the course) - and returned to participants finished and patinated. The cost of the final casting is included in the course cost. BOOK HERE PRINTMAKING - Collograph workshop.Tutor Ruth Jên Evans Sat 18th - Sun 19th Aug Cost £125 (£105 concessions) including materials A two day intensive workshop using the printmaking technique called the ‘collograph', which creates wonderfully textured and sophisticated images using everyday materials. The image will be composed from a variety of materials, such as leaves, card, string, wallpaper and textiles that are glued on to a cardboard base, sealed, inked and printed. Using the Mini Print exhibition in Gallery 2 as a starting point, this two day workshop offers participants the opportunity to work and learn alongside professional printmaker Ruth Jen Evans.
