A Family Show – Googie Lace and Cuteware Critter Cups

This midsummer show features mother and daughter: Heidi, famous for her "Cuteware" and Lillian, who paints complex, imaginative images on paper.
 
Heidi lives her life like a palette of color. From dancing, singing and writing to painting, sculpting and teaching art, Heidi does it all!  Heidi's ceramic Cuteware is whimsical and detailed in glowing colors. Each piece is individually high fired and finished with a low fire glaze.  Since it's summer, Heidi has arranged a Cuteware Critter Cups family reunion.  On display are big ones, little ones, old and young ones; all ready for adoption.  Come and pick a cup that you want to hand down to your next of kin!
 
Lillian paints graphic, inventive art using inks and watercolor.  Her work is colorful, gritty and playful...a reflection of Los Angeles, her adopted city.  LA's landscape shimmers with abundant flowers, vulgar billboards and eclectic architecture, including Googie design, a post-war style of California exuberance and space age modernity. Lillian's work is not only influenced by Googie, but also by the city’s vibrant flora, and the tough imagery of the tattoo sub-culture. Two major pieces in the show, one black and one white, are 4.5 foot scrolls, intricately embellished with black or white "Googie Lace" atop a layer of deep, rich colorful swirls and washes. These are ongoing projects that will be continued to completion in the future.  
 
The second reception for Heidi Bekebrede and Lillian Grant coincides with the Davis Second Friday ArtAbout: Friday, July 13, The Artery, 207 G Street, Davis, CA is open 7 days a week.  Monday through Saturday: 10-6, Sunday: 12-5, Friday evenings until 9.
