Choreographer Tara O'Con revisits her work Underneath Where We Are, which was originally commissioned by, and premiered at The Chocolate Factory Theater in December 2010. A subtle and understated movement piece for two dancers and
ambient soundscore, Underneath Where We Are is a sensory, tactile, meditative, and obsessive exploration of the body's relationship to the space it inhabits.

Transforming Function–currently running in Building 110: LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island–in the new Conrad Hotel in Lower Manhattan. Transforming Function features artists who re-imagine elements of
technology, science and architecture to offer new perspectives on interacting with and experiencing our environment.

Swing Space Open Call
The Open Call for Swing Space will be released later this month.
Swing Space is a project-based residency program that places visual and performing artists and arts groups in space for the development of new projects. Since 2005, Swing Space has placed over 1,000 artists in more
than 20 different locations throughout Lower Manhattan and on Governors Island. Stay tuned as we release the Application Guidelines and announce Info Sessions later this month, all of which you will be able to access
here.

In collaboration with New York City senior centers and the older adults they serve, LMCC's
SPARC artists-in-residence present free, public events throughout the summer. SPARC, Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide, has served 50 artists-in-residence in 2012 who are placed at senior centers
across the five boroughs. Seniors engage in a diverse range of creative projects in the visual, performing, and literary arts.

Grants for 2013 Arts Projects - Guidelines & Applications Announced
Each year, LMCC supports over 200 arts projects across Manhattan, from Inwood to the Battery. 2013 guidelines and online application forms for LMCC's three grant programs,
The Fund for Creative Communities,
Manhattan Community Arts Fund, and
Creative Curricula are now available on our website.
Application Deadline

Creative Curricula, LMCC's arts-education program, continues to offer up to $5,000 to
Manhattan-based individual teaching artists or cultural organizations working
in partnership with Manhattan schools, but program scope and requirements have
changed.

In this interactive workshop, teaching artists will use Community Word Project's philosophy of inquiry as a method for developing and sequencing innovative, arts-based lesson plans for K-12 students. The workshop is open to teaching
artists working in any artistic discipline, with some prior experience in creating a lesson plan.

One of the challenges of fundraising is writing clear and effective grant proposals. This workshop will cover common components of most grant proposals, providing tips, exercises, and examples to help make future proposals more effective.
Artist Maria Michails will share her approach to developing, organizing and maintaining this integral part of her practice.

Audience, Inc. – SOUND OFF
Sound Off is an intimate concert series, connecting audiences with contemporary composers, musicians, artists, and one another. On July 31, the series features violinist and composer, Todd Reynolds.
West Side Community Garden – Shakespeare for Children and Adults
An imaginative introduction to Shakespeare's plays for children and adults alike, West Side Community Garden's July performances feature a mini version of A Midsummer's Night's Dream. Children are encouraged to join the
performance.
