For the young dancers at the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the world's most prestigious ballet competitions, lifelong dreams are at stake. With hundreds competing for a handful of elite scholarships and contracts, practice and discipline are paramount, and nothing short of perfection is expected. Bess Kargman's award-winning documentary, First Position, follows six young dancers as they prepare for a chance to enter the world of professional ballet, struggling through bloodied feet, near exhaustion, and debilitating injuries, all while navigating the drama of adolescence. ART CLASS ALERT
DRAW, PAINT, PRINT! THE ART OF MONOTYPE PRINTING Sunday, July 22, 1-5 pm
Ability level: All levels
$25 members/$30 nonmembers (materials provided)
Monotypes are one-of-a-kind prints created by brushing a design in ink onto a blank printing plate then transferring that image to paper using a printing press. Join in the fun of learning to make monotypes. Embossing is also part of this process. You can add textures and combine with other mediums, such as drawing or collage, to create unique printed works of art. Instructor Mike Muller has his M.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of North Texas. Mike has been an avid printmaker and photographer for over 30 years. His primary focus is landscapes, and he often uses his photographs as inspiration for works in other mediums, such as drawings and prints. Call (405) 236-3100, ext. 213, for more details or register online. |
