Bacardi Shares Never-Before-Seen Art Pieces with Groundbreaking Arts Exposition
The spirits company continues its enduring affinity with the arts as part of CARIBBEAN: Crossroads of the World
Bacardi unveils three items from the Company’s private art collection at the groundbreaking art exhibition - CARIBBEAN: Crossroads of the World - an unprecedented collaboration by El Museo
del Barrio, Queens Museum of Art and the Studio Museum in New York City.
The art owned by Bacardi Limited is one of the largest private company collections of Latin American art in the world. These specific pieces provide an extraordinary glimpse into the unique, safeguarded
heritage of the company and its lasting impact on the Caribbean.
“The loan of works from the private collection of Bacardi Limited adds an important dimension and perspective into Cuban modernism with the contribution of artists Carlos Enriquez, Amelia Pelaez
del Casal and Rene Portocarerro,” said Elvis Fuentes, Project Director of CARIBBEAN: Crossroads of the World exhibition. “We are honored to be able to include these never-before-seen in public pieces into the exhibit, which adds to the significance of this
project and its development.”
The artwork shared by Bacardi is:
·
Carlos Enriquez –
“El Hurón Azul” – 1956
-
Enriquez used a personal visual language of fluid lines, overlapping color forms and dynamic figure compositions. He represents the Cuban countryside, its inhabitants and folklore.
·
Amelia Pelaez del Casal –
“Pez con Columnas Barrocas” – 1950
-
Pelaez, well received by French critics, made tremendous advances in chromatic technique and is best known for her paintings and ceramics.
·
Rene Portocarerro –
“Carnaval Cubano” – 1953
-
Portocarrero painted tirelessly since his childhood and never planned any of his work. His works are exhibited in permanent collections across the world.
“Continuing the Company’s heritage and long-standing tradition of involvement in both the arts and the community,
Bacardi is delighted to offer pieces from its private collection to the CARIBBEAN: Crossroads of the World exhibit,” said Robert Furniss-Roe, President for Bacardi USA. “The landmark multimedia
exhibition explores the history and art of the Caribbean, all of which Bacardi
has been deeply connected with since its founding 150 years ago in Santiago de Cuba.”
This multi-themed exhibition features over 550 works by 379 artists. Presenting work at the three museums and accompanied by an ambitious range of programs and events, Caribbean: Crossroads offers an unprecedented
opportunity to explore the diverse and impactful cultural history of the Caribbean basin and its diaspora. For more information, please visit
