August 22, 6-9pm: Ugly Duckling Presse presents a reading with Marisol Limon Martinez and James Hoff.

The gallery will be closed August 24th through September 3rd for summer holidays.

September 18, 6-8pm: Opening Reception for The Savage Detectives, a group
exhibition curated by artist Tyler Healy featuring the work of six New York-based artists: Jack Greer, Tyler Healy, Dean Levin, Sandy Kim, Evan Robarts and Peter Sutherland and Hunting and Gathering, a two-person exhibition featuring Wolfgang Ellenrieder and Myeongsoo Kim.

RH Gallery is pleased to present The Third Meaning II featuring artists Soledad Arias, Paul Edmunds, Wolfgang Ellenrieder, Daniel Escobar, Shao Fan, Fredrik Färg, Parastou Forouhar, Atsushi Fukui, Micah Ganske, Dante Horoiwa, Hideaki Kawashima, Ken Nicol, John O'Reilly, Young Sook Park, Kirstine Roepstorff, Katrina Vonnegut and Yi Zhou.

The works contain a third order of meaning, beyond the obvious and the symbolic. The term "The third meaning" is a representation without a direct, material source - a "signifier without a signified."

Ugly Duckling Presse features 2 special-edition letterpress broadsides: a letterpress rebus poster from Gabriel Pomerand's seminal Lettrist publication Saint Ghetto des Prêts and a broadside derived from Austrian poet Ernst Herbeck's chapbook. The exhibition also features books, broadsides, and ephemera spanning the 10-year history of the Brooklyn-based nonprofit presse.

Tamar Ettun. "What We Have In Our Pockets", 2012.

The opening reception of The Third Meaning II featured a performance program with Tamar Ettun, Jaeeun Lee and Netta Yerushalmy. Ettun presented What We Have In Our Pockets, a participatory performance which revolved around a story of the same name by Etgar Keret. Lee presented Assorted Nils In, inspired by Georges Bataille’s essay “The Labyrinth”. Yerushalmy presented Self Portrait – Sketch #3 in which the artist created a self-portrait in movement inspired by the raw and innocent expression of the artist as a child. RH Gallery is pleased to present Hunting and Gathering, a two-person exhibition featuring the work of New York-based Korean artist Myeongsoo Kim and Munich-based artist Wolfgang Ellenrieder.

The title of the exhibition reflects the process ingrained in the practice of both artists.

The opening reception is on September 18th, 6-8pm and the exhibition will be on view through October 24th.

RH Gallery is pleased to present The Savage Detectives, a group
exhibition curated by artist Tyler Healy featuring the work of six New York-based artists: Jack Greer, Tyler Healy,
Dean Levin, Sandy Kim, Evan Robarts and Peter Sutherland.

The title of the exhibition is borrowed from a book by Roberto Bolaño of the same name which tells the story of interconnected, ambitious writers who thrive on a utopian kind of madness.

The opening reception is on September 18th, 6-8pm and the exhibition will be on view through October 24th.

James Hoff. "Ten More Poems", 2012.

Ugly Duckling Presse presents a reading with Marisol Limon Martinez and James Hoff. The event will take place on August 22, from 6-9pm.

Martinez is a visual artist, musician and writer. She is the author of After you, dearest language & First Space and Then Structures. Marisol recently finished her latest book which she is now adapting into a live performance.

Hoff is an artist and writer who works in painting, performance, poetry, and sound. His published works include Ten More Poems, Notable Untitled, and About Ten Poems.

Parastou Forouhar. "Kharavan Butterfly", 2010.

Parastou Forouhar is included in the group exhibition Art and Social Activism curated by Nicholas Cohn Art Projects at chashama in Long Island City.

The group exhibition features "an international roster of artists working in a range of media, from painting and sculpture to video and performance, connected by their focus on social issues of national and global concern."

The exhibition is on view through August 25th, 2012.

Micah Ganske created a short film documenting the process of his recent painting, "Tomorrowland: Centralia".

The film was shot with multiple time-lapse cameras in his studio over the course of 3 months.

Congratulations to Micah Ganske on receiving the 2012 the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Artists' Fellowship Award for Painting!

First launched in 1985, NYFA’s Artist Fellowship Program, has provided over $27 million in unrestricted cash grants to artists in 15 disciplines at critical stages in their careers. Past recipients include the winners of five Academy Awards, five Tony Awards, eight Pulitzer Prizes and 15 MacArthur “Genius” Fellowships.

Soledad Arias will be included in Mexic-Arte Museum's upcoming exhibition Elements of Day of The Dead.

Mexic-Arte Museum is dedicated to enriching the community through education programs and exhibitions focusing on traditional and contemporary Mexican and Latin American art and culture.

The exhibition will be on view from September 21 - November 18, 2012.

ArtNexus Magazine reviewed Soledad Arias' recent exhibition Notations: The Cage Effect Today.

Graciela Kartofel writes, "This exhibition, Notations: The Cage Effect Today, brings together a number of contemporary artists who, without necessarily being Cagean, touch at least tangentially upon several of Cage's ideas. Cage crossed borders, and continues to motivate others to do so."

The Villager featured our current exhibition The Third Meaning II, on view through September 7th, 2012.

"Coined by French literary critic and all-around deep thinker Roland Barthes as a term to represent that which exists without a direct, material source, the 17 artists who’ve contributed work to this exhibition seek to reveal 'a third order of meaning, beyond the obvious and the symbolic.'"

LE FIGARO featured Yi Zhou's latest video entitled The Future We Want.

The film, which was commissioned by the United Nations Development Program China, was accompanied by the following statement from Zhou. "I imagine the future being with no harm, no pain, no war, no tricks, no hatred. I imagine the future being full of blossom. Water. Energy. Positivity. Food. Love. I imagine the future being hybrid with new colors, new hopes, new solutions, new resolutions, new healing systems, new languages, new diplomacy, new answers, new meanings."
