After viewing 2,377 entries from 81 different countries, our selection committee picked 94 short films and 49 for the showcase screenings.

Highlights include new films from Don Hertzfeldt, PES, Run Wrake, Hisko Hulsing, Michaela Pavlatova, Rosto, Michael Langan, Andreas Hykade, Barry Purves, Dustin Grella, Pierre Hébert and many more.

Plus we've got the North American premiere of Arrugas (dir. Ignacio Ferreras) a life affirming look at friendship in a care home and the extraordinarily inventive Le Tableau (dir. Jean-François Laguionie). UK animation legend Paul Bush will showcase his film Babeldom and Chris Sullivan will showcase Consuming Spirits - a truly independent film, over ten years in the making.

This year's line-up of talks will see animation's heavy hitters share their secrets and experiences. Here's some of what we've got planned:

VFX giant New Deal Studios (Dark Knight Rises, Hugo, The Avengers and Iron Man) will talk about creating iconic effects and what it takes to bring the visions of the amazing directors they work with to life.

ParaNorman director Chris Butler, will take us behind the scenes of the most ambitious stop-motion film yet.

Director, Genndy Tartakovsky will be hosting a Q&A after we screen his latest work, Hotel Transylvania. Tartakovsky's work is legendary and includes Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

There's a whole lot more planned including talks by animation badass Ralph Bakshi, the puppet master Barry Purves, Jean-François Laguionie, British advertising geniuses Smith and Foulkes, Amid Amidi on the life and art of Ward Kimball, Pixar's Mark Walsh and more.

ProfDevv

We've planned a special block designed for those breaking into the animation industry. These talks will teach you things "you ain't seen in school."

Emmy Award winning Character Designer Phil Rynda will conduct a masterclass on everything you need to know about character design. Areas of focus will include drawing fundamentals, the concepts of appeal and visual communication.

Butch Hartman will drop by and share his dos and don'ts of animation and comedy writing.

Industry Etiquette 101, explains how to break the ice with an exec and investigate career opportunities.

Coming Soon To A Theatre Near You shows how to develop a feature film single-handedly, from the creative obstacles, production problems to the satisfaction of a job well done.

85 Minutes of Hell: Storyboarding for Features. The director of the follow up to 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs', Kris Pearn, talks about the process of storyboarding for feature animated films, using Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers as a case study.

While you are hanging out at the NAC visit the AniMarket, a weekend tradeshow will showcase the best in animation technology, production and education. Information booths will be set-up in the NAC Theatre lobby from Friday September 21 at 6pm until to Sunday September 23 at 3:30pm, with experts on-hand to meet with the public and answer any number of questions. Meet with exhibitors Nelvana, Sheridan College, CelAction, Wacom, Walt Disney Animation, Algonquin College, BIT - Bachelor of Information Technology and VanArts.

We're teaming up with our friends at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) and planning an exhibition of works by local animators. Artworks will be selected through a jury process and will be on view and for sale from September 11th to October 6th 2012, (at the same time as our festival!!) in the OAG's ART Rental and Sales space, located within Arts Court.

Submission Criteria & Process: Artist must live or work locally (150 km) from the Ottawa Art Gallery
Maximum submission of 3 artworks. The Gallery has the right to refuse or accept any number of pieces.
Submissions must also include an artist's statement, a short bio and all credit information regarding the artwork(s) (title, date, medium, size, and purchase price)

All artworks must be for sale. The Gallery reserves a 35% commission on all sales.

Email your submission to sgermano@ottawaartgallery.ca, and include your name and ANIMATION .

Submissions must be sent no later than August 24th 2012.
