Biggs Shot 2012 Registration Deadline is Right Around the Corner 

Biggs Shot 2012, the third juried photography competition and exhibition will feature the work of both emerging and professional photographers living in the Mid-Atlantic region to take place this fall. The theme of Biggs Shot is open and any photographic medium can be submitted for consideration including film, video and digital formats. The selected photographs will be showcased in the Biggs Shot 2012 exhibition at the Biggs Museum from November 2012 through February 2013. All entries must be received or postmarked by September 15, 2012. Both amateur and professional photographers are encouraged to apply. Completed entries must include entry form (please email jkemske@biggsmuseum.org for entry form or click here to apply.), payment of entry ($35) and submitted electronic files of photography. This year's juror is Sarah Stolfa, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. Her portraiture series, The Regulars, was featured in the New York Times Magazine and published in the artist's 2009 photography catalog of the same title (Artisan, a division of Workman Publishing). With a Masters of Fine Art from Yale University, Stolfa opened the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center in 2009.

Join us for the second annual Biggs Museum Golf Tournament at Wild Quail Country Club on Friday, September 21 at 12:30 p.m. The Tournament presented by Koppenhaver, Hawkins & Associates and Bayhealth Medical Center, will feature a number of awesome prizes including a SOLID GOLD golf tee donated by Sayers Jewelers and Gemologists  for any player lucky enough to get a hole in one!!!! Poetry Reading by Gary Hanna, Delaware Division of the Arts Established Professional, Literature: Poetry

Gary Hanna, Director of the Delaware Writer's Library, will read sections from his personal collection of poems on topics such as nature, portraits, road kill, history, simple things and relationships. The audience will notice his voice, content, language and style is quite different in the various kinds of poetry. Hanna will make distinctions between the different types of poems and explain lyric and narrative. Discover where Hanna's impetus comes from and the process used to create his poetry.

 

Biggs Kids: Sea Glass

Saturday, September 1

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

FREE! Children Ages 5-10

In anticipation of the Glass Transformed exhibition we will learn what the color and type of glass mean to a sea collector. Participants will be surprised to learn the most common color and shape of sea glass while constructing a vibrant sea glass mosaic to take home.

Glass Transformed is the first museum presentation of the photographic work of Celia Pearson within the State of Delaware. Based in Annapolis, Pearson travels the world to photograph unique sea glass collections. Spanning from still life to abstract studies of light and translucent glass, and presented in forms as varied as framed prints to fiber installations, Pearson's work has been published and exhibited widely.

 

Digital Photography Workshop with William Bretzger, Delaware Division of the Arts, Established Professional, Visual Arts: Photography

Saturday, September 8 and Saturday, September 15

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

$75 per person

This two-day workshop will empower you to take control of your camera's features and advance your skills. Professional Photographer, William Bretzger will provide participants with the knowledge essential to explore all capabilities of the digital SLR. Participants will also learn how to incorporate these tools with different lenses and will explore techniques of composition and lighting. By the workshop's end participants will have acquired an understanding of their camera and a collection of images that reflect their new expertise. Participants are required to bring a digital SLR camera and a flash card or thumb drive.
